Bite Beauty Multistick Review in Almond and Praline!

October 20, 2016

Bite Beauty Multistick in Praline and Almond

Happy Thursday everyone!  I have a review on two shades of Bite Beauty’s new Multistick product.  Since these are a hot commodity, I had to check them out for myself.

Curious to see what I thought? Keep reading!

Bite Beauty Multistick in Almond and Praline

Bite Beauty Multistick in Almond and Praline

Described as,  “a multistick that applies like a cream and wears like a powder for weightless color application—just apply with your finger or a brush on the eyes, lips, and cheeks. With 35 percent powder in each Multistick bullet, this silicone-free formula creates a soft focus finish that’s blendable, breathable, and buildable. It features universal shades for the eyes, lips, and cheeks that compliment all skintones and are formulated to use anywhere on the face.”

Pros

Highly pigmented

Long-lasting

Excellent array of shades

Great as a base for eyeshadow

Magnetic cap

Cons

A bit pricey at $24 a bullet

A little on the drier side

Can accentuate dry patches

Takes a bit of effort to blend

Overall: I like these, however I prefer them as lipsticks first.  They are a bit on the drier side and I find that they tend to drag a bit.  If lips are properly exfoliated and prepped, then it’s not that much of an issue as they stay on matte.  It is a little hard to blend these so using them as blush requires some effort. I’m sure that the neutral shades would work better as blush on my fair skin tone.  As eyeshadows, these work best either as a liner or a base and most definitely need a primer to last.  The colors and pigmentation on these are gorgeous.  Praline is a burnt orange shade while Almond is a reddish brown- both excellent color choices for fall.  It’s also nice that this cap is magnetic so it ensures that the cap doesn’t open up in your purse.

Here’s swatches of Almond (top) and Praline (bottom).

I actually found a dupe for the shade Almond.  The Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Birkin Brown is a spot on dupe for Almond.  In terms of application, Birkin Brown applies a bit more smoother but shade wise, they are pretty much identical.

Summer Must Have: Lip Colors!

July 9, 2015

SMH Lips

Hello readers and welcome to my second installment of my ‘Summer Must Have’ series in which I share products I think are perfect for summer.  Today, it’s all about my favorite lippies!  From neutral to bright, drugstore to high-end, you’re bound to find something you’ll like.

Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Palomino

Love this magenta hued lipstick as it’s richly pigmented and creamy formula applies smoothly. The color will eventually wear off after a few hours especially after drinking or eating but it’ll leave behind a stain.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella

Part of the Sephora Beauty Insider birthday gift, this crimson red lip pencil soon became one of my favorites.  The pencil tip allows for a smoother and precise application and the matte formula is comfortable to wear.

NYX High Voltage Lipstick in Rags to Riches

Highly pigmented color and budget friendly, this lipstick is a beautiful pink shade that has a creamy application. Not the longest-wearing shade but it does last a solid 4 hours.

Sonia Kashuk Velvet Matte Lip Crayon in Raspberry Nude

A vibrant berry shade, this lip crayon is very similar to the Nars Matte Velvet Pencil for a fraction of the price:  easy to apply and the matte formula ensures lasting color.

Swatch 1

L-R: Palomino, Cruella, Rags to Riches, Raspberry Nude

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Moody

This dark berry/plum color can be worn sheer or layered for more intensified color .  It comes in a retractable pencil like form which means you never have to worry about sharpening it and can spend those precious seconds having fun.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Nude

Packaged in a squeeze tube, the soft angled tip allows for easy application and the neutral color is a forgiving shade that can be applied on the go.

Urban Decay Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Punch Drunk

If you want to venture out of your comfort zone and are looking for a lovely orange hue, look no further. Rich, creamy and glossy color, all encapsulated in one pencil.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levres Glossy Stain in Corail Aquatique

The most luxurious of the bunch, this gorgeous coral pink gloss is speckled with subtle gold shimmer and leaves behind a lovely stain.  The unique applicator has a wider base that deposits color on your lips while the pointed edge makes it easy to get a precise application.

Swatch 2

L-R: Moody, Melted Nude, Punch Drunk, Corail Aquatique

That does it for today!

What are your favorite lip products for summer?

Too Faced/Bite Beauty Review + Swatches!

December 18, 2014

Too Faced Melted Kisses

Left to right: Melted Berry, Melted Peony, Melted Fuchsia and Melted Nude

Happy Thursday everyone!  I hope all is well.  🙂

Awhile back I purchased the Too Faced Melted Kisses lip set.  It included 4 mini versions of Too Faced’s Melted Lipstick and as I had really liked Melted Fuchsia, I thought it was perfect to try out some of their other colors.  Plus, this set has a good array of colors for different looks and with a long-lasting formula, it was too good to pass up.

Too Faced Peony

The Melted Lipsticks come in a squeeze tube with a soft angled tip for easy application.  They are described as “having the shine of a gloss, lasting power of a stain, and pigment-packed color of a liquid lipstick, all in one high-impact formula.”

While these lipsticks have a creamy texture and are pigment-packed, the shine doesn’t last long as it dries to a matte finish.  If you’re not used to the matte finish, it can take you awhile to adjust to this formula.   The color payoff however is amazing!  I found the brighter/darker colors last longer than the neutral ones but they are all great nevertheless.

The shades included are:

Melted Berry– berry red

Melted Peony-dusty rose

Melted Fuchsia– hot pink

Melted Nude– warm peachy nude

Melted Kisses Swatches

Left to right: Melted Berry, Melted Peony, Melted Fuchsia, and Melted Nude

Overall:  If you’re looking for long-lasting lip colors with a great color selection(and cruelty-free), these are worth a look.  Sometimes I use a little bit of lip balm underneath them so the formula doesn’t feel super matte.  Also, make sure your lips aren’t dry or flaky when using these as I saw it clung on and accentuated these aspects.

Bite Beauty Lips

Bite Beauty Mix N’ Mingle Lip Minis: Left to right: Retsina and Musk.

With the holiday season, Bite Beauty has released “a limited-edition lip collection with Crème Lipstick Duos, Matte Crème Lip Crayons, and Lush Fruit lip glosses.” These Mix N’ Mingle Lip Minis can be used as cute stocking stuffers or serve as an introduction to the brand.  As I own a few bright colors from Bite Beauty, I opted for The Luminous Crème Lipstick Duo.

The shades included are:

Retsina– natural pink

Musk–  pink brown.

Restina Musk Swatches

Left to right: Retsina and Musk

As I wore Musk, I realized the color looked familiar and as I glanced at my lipstick collection, I knew why.  Musk is practically a dupe for M.A.C. Viva Glam V!

MAC Bite

I was introduced to Viva Glam V in high school by a makeup artist who did my makeup for my senior portrait and since then, I have repurchased this several times- both the lipstick and the lipgloss.  I love the versatility of this lipstick as you can use it with any look, be it natural or bold and smokey.

MAC Musk Swatches

Left to right: MAC Viva Glam V and Musk

Overall: As much as I love Bite Beauty, I wasn’t super thrilled with this color selection as I already have something similar to it. Retsina and Musk are both beautiful natural colors but for $4 more, you can purchase the full-size Viva Glam V lipstick from M.A.C. Plus, every cent goes to the M.A.C. AIDS fund.

Have you tried any of these colors?  What are your thoughts?

Thanks for reading,

Stephanie

Fun Spring Look!

April 29, 2014

spring look

Spring is perfect for a few bold and bright shades in makeup. Here’s a neutral look splashed with a pop of color I created. The products I used are in parenthesis.  You can also simplify this look by skipping the crease color and using only one eyeshadow,  either the medium shade or the lightest shade on the lid; you’ll still get the pop of color.

Face: Use a light-weight foundation to provide an even base. (Smashbox Liquid Halo HD Foundation)

Concealer: Use concealer only if you need it.  (Kat Von D Lock-It Tatto Concealer)

Cheeks: A soft pink blush gives checks a bit of color without competing with the overall look. A swipe of bronzer can also be used in place of blush to provide a subtle hint of color. (Nars Blush in Douceur)

Eyes Primer: This step is optional, however it does keep the eyeshadow from creasing (Too Faced Shadow Insurance)

Eyeshadows: Use neutral colored eyeshadows, one light, one medium and one dark. Pat the medium shade on the lid and use the darker shade in the crease.  The lightest shade, also known as a highlight shade, should be used just underneath the brows and make sure to blend well. (Urban Decay Naked 3: Trick (lid), Factory (crease), and Strange (highlight).

Eyeliner: Line the top lid with black liner and the bottom with a blue. (Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black and Maybelline Master Drama Chromatics in Blast of Blue)

Mascara: One to two coats of your favorite mascara (Milani Total Lash Cover Mascara with 3 Zone Brush)

Brows: Shade in brows with powder (Merle Norman Natural Brow Powder)

Lips: Choose a bold lip color, preferably pink, coral, or orange (Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Tart)

What are your favorite spring makeup shades?
