Skin Tip: Less Sugar for a Youthful Look!

January 9, 2015

sugar

Most people’s resolutions at the beginning of the year are to eat healthier.  If you need an extra incentive to eat less processed and sugary foods, consider this.  A diet high in sugar accelerates the aging process and can result in inflammation, puffiness and loss of skin radiance.

Have a lovely weekend,

Stephanie

Skin Tip: Easy Way to Get a Smoother Shave!

December 19, 2014

Most women shave in the shower but men can benefit from this too!  The humidity created by your shower helps soften skin and keep it moist allowing for easier facial hair removal.  Just make sure the water isn’t too hot as this can dry out your skin.

Thanks for tuning in this week! 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend,

Stephanie

Skin Tip: Pencil in Some 'Me' Time!

December 12, 2014

me time

This time of year can be particularly stressful for everyone with all the shopping, traffic, end of the year deadlines, etc.  What can that mean for your skin?  Increased breakouts, eczema flareups, and a weak immune system that can trigger skin redness (or rosacea).

Take a few moments this weekend to squeeze in some time for yourself.  Whether it’s as simple as lighting a candle with a relaxing scent, booking a quick massage/facial or dancing, figure out what makes you happy and less stressed and put it into practice. 🙂

Wishing everyone a great and safe weekend,

Reader Question: How to Use a Vitamin C Serum!

December 10, 2014

question mark

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I had a question about how to use a vitamin C serum and that is such a great question.  I mean, how many times have you purchased a product that sounds like a great addition to your skincare arsenal and then realize you have no idea how to use it?  Happens to the best of us. 🙂

In a nutshell, the use of vitamin C results in a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, promotes the formation of collagen, protects the skin from UV damage and can also reduce pigmentation due to its brightening properties.  (For more information on vitamin C, click here.)  The best and most efficient way to use it is during the day underneath your moisturizer and sunscreen.  This will give you that extra antioxidant protection your skin needs from the sun’s harmful rays, which plays a prominent role in the breakdown of collagen.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for reading,

Stephanie

Skin Tip: Lip Balm and Breakouts!

December 5, 2014

Lip Balm and Acne

If breakouts keep recurring on your chin or jawline, perhaps your lip balm may be the culprit.  Over the last few weeks, I have broken out repeatedly on my chin area and I found it had to do with applying my lip balm right before I went to sleep.

The solution?  Since I haven’t had any problems with this lip balm until I applied it at night, I make sure to apply it a least half an hour before I sleep.  This way, it has a chance to sink in and I can wipe off some of the excess, lessening the chance of it spreading around when I sleep.

Have you ever had this problem?  Share in the comment section below!

See you next week,

Stephanie

Skin Tip: Why You Need to Stay Hydrated

November 21, 2014

As temperatures drop, you might notice changes in your skin.  Skin can become dry, tight, flaky and perhaps feel more sensitive/irritated. One crucial part of skincare is to keep your skin hydrated because this helps protect us from pathogens, irritation, and from the skin drying out.  If you find that even when you use your moisturizer, your skin still feels dry or tight, us the tips below as a guideline.

Dry Skin/Normal/Dry and Sensitive:  Switch to a heavier cream

Oily/Combination/Sensitive and Oily: Use a hydrating serum/booster underneath your current moisturizer to obtain hydration without heaviness that can lead to breakouts.

As always, if you have any questions, I am here to help. 🙂

Stay warm and hydrated,

Stephanie

Makeup 411- How To Prevent Cakey Foundation!

November 19, 2014

Dermalogica

With cold weather starting to set in, your skin’s moisture levels may drop causing your foundation to start to looking a bit cakey.  If that’s the case, first make sure you are applying your foundation over a moisturized face.  Mixing a small amount of your moisturizer into your foundation should also help your foundation glide on more smoothly.

Featured product I love: Dermalogica’s Active Moist.

Have you tried this trick?  How did it work for you? Comment below!

Have a great Wednesday,

Skin Tip: Less is More Money Saved!

November 14, 2014

How many times have we thought, “If this product is working wonders for me, imagine what it can do if I use more.”  When it comes to skin care, less is definitely more. Excessive amounts can cause skin problems and waste money.

A pea-sized amount for potent ingredients like retinol or concentrated serums should suffice and about a quarter-sized amount for cleanser and moisturizer should do.

Have a good weekend,

Stephanie

Skin Tip: Halloween Edition!

October 31, 2014

halloween

Since it’s Halloween, most of us are dressing up and probably using some type of face makeup. Follow these simple guidelines to ensure your makeup lasts and your skin stays protected!

1) Use a primer before painting your face to provide a barrier between your skin and the makeup- this way, the makeup sits on top of your primer instead of directly on the skin.

2) Remove all makeup after your event is done! Sleeping in stage makeup that is loaded with heavy waxes, colors and oils is a recipe for breakouts and irritation. If possible, use an oil-based cleanser to help dissolve makeup so that there is minimal rubbing, tugging, and pulling. Milk/cream cleansers can work just as well or use makeup wipes as another option. Follow with your cleanser to remove any leftover residue and moisturize.

Thanks for reading, have a fun Halloween weekend, and stay tuned next week!

Skin Tip: DIY Pumpkin Mask!

October 24, 2014

pumpkinpuree

Turn leftover pumpkins into a skin treat!

Simply combine about a cup of pureed, cooked fresh or canned pumpkin, 4 tablespoons of plain yogurt and a little bit of honey in a bowl and apply onto clean face.  Relax on a couch or bed while it sits on skin for about 10 minutes, rinse off with warm water and apply your favorite moisturizer.  You can add a little bit of olive oil into the mix if your skin is more on the dry side.

*Always conduct a patch test to avoid adverse effects.

Wishing you all a great weekend,

Stephanie
