Skin Tip: Easy Way to Depuff Eyes!

July 14, 2017

One simple trick you can do to soothe tired eyes is to stick your eye cream in the fridge.  The coldness can act like a compress to depuff eyes.  Although you can try this trick anytime, it’s perfect to try in the summer for a quick cooling effect during heat waves.

Skin Tip: The ABC’s of Skin Cancer!

May 12, 2017

With May being skin cancer awareness month, use the guidelines below to know what to look for when detecting skin cancer.

Asymmetry  If you draw a line through this mole, the two halves will not match.

Border The borders of an early melanoma tend to be uneven, irregular, scalloped or notched.

Color  Coloring varies from one area to another- different shades if brown, tan, or black- and it can become red, blue or some other color.

Diameter  Melanomas are usually larger than the size of the eraser on your pencil ( ¼ inch or 6mm) but they can be smaller when first detected.

Evolution  Any changes in size, shape, color, elevation or new symptoms such as bleeding itching or crusting.

Always remember, when in doubt, have it checked out!

Skin Tip: Halloween Edition!

October 28, 2016

Happy Friday everyone!

Since it’s Halloween weekend, I have a special skin saving tip to share with those that are planning to dress up. 🙂

Applying a silicone-based primer or moisturizer will not only help your makeup apply smoother but it will also act as a barrier between the makeup and your skin, protecting you from any irritation that can stem from artificial colors.

Have a safe weekend everyone!

Skin Tip: DIY Pumpkin Body Scrub!

October 21, 2016

Happy Friday!

I have a quick DIY pumpkin scrub that you can use to exfoliate dead skin from your body this holiday season.

2 cups of fresh cooked pumpkin (pureed)

4 tbsp. honey

1/2 cup of brown sugar

1/8 tsp. of olive oil

1 tsp. pumpkin spice

Combine 2 cups pureed pumpkin, 4 tbsp. honey, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/8 tsp. of olive oil and 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice in a bowl to make the scrub.  Spread onto body, concentrating on rough patches like knees and elbows. Rinse off with water.

*Always conduct a patch test to avoid adverse effects.*

See you next week,

Skin Tip: Satin Pillowcases for Wrinkles!

October 14, 2016

Happy Friday readers!

If you notice you wake up with sleep wrinkles in the morning, it can be caused by the friction between you and your pillow. Unless you sleep on your back, satin or silk pillowcases may be worth looking into as they slide rather than pull against your skin.  Bonus tip: they can also help reduce frizzy hair!

Do you use a silk or satin pillowcase?

Have a great weekend!

Skin 411: A Word About Ingredient Names You Can’t Pronounce!

September 16, 2016

Happy Friday everyone!

When it comes to reading ingredient labels, I’m sure you’ve heard that if you can’t pronounce an ingredient or the name is too long, it’s automatically bad for you.  Well, that’s actually a myth as many skincare companies adhere to the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) system, which is an internationally recognized way of standardizing labels on cosmetic products.

For example tocopherol acetate, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate and butyrospermum parkii sound scary but they are actually alternative names for vitamin E, vitamin C, and shea butter.  Remember that whether you can pronounce an ingredient name or not tells you nothing about the safety of it.

See you next week!

Skin Tip: Sensitized Skin!

September 9, 2016

Happy Friday readers!

If you’ve never really had sensitive skin but all of a sudden you’re experiencing irritation, you may have sensitized skin.  Sensitized skin can be a result of  stress, hormonal fluctuations, smoking, alcohol, poor diet, medical procedures, over-exfoliated skin and fragrance.  Eliminating or controlling these factors should help you get your skin back to normal.

Have a great weekend!

Skin Tip: Listen to What Your Skin is Trying to Say!

July 22, 2016

It’s finally Friday and time for another skin tip!

Our skin is a very unique organ and if you pay close attention, you’ll start to see what it’s trying to tell you.  If you’re using a product that suddenly leaves your skin red, blotchy and itchy, chances are it’s too strong for you or you’re having an allergic reaction.  Likewise, if your skin has a slight burning feeling every time you apply a product, something is causing it to behave that way.  Don’t ignore these signs and try to figure out what the product it is by process of elimination or asking advice from your trusted esthetician/medical professional.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Skin Tip: Pre-Dip Tip!

July 15, 2016

Happy Friday everyone!

If you’re headed to the pool this weekend, make sure to rinse your skin with non-chlorinated water before you enter the pool as this can lessen the amount of irritation chlorine can cause the skin.

Have a safe weekend everyone and don’t forget to check out my article on sunburns here!
