Lip Products Under $10!

March 24, 2015

Drugstore Lippes!

Hello readers and good morning!  Well, at least on my side of the world it’s morning. 🙂  Hope all of you are doing well!  I’ve been sick off and on for the past month or so and I feel like this year, it’s been brutal.  I think I’m battling allergies now and I just cannot wait until this is over with.  Anyone else feel the same way?

Any who, on to the task at hand.  Today’s review is all about lip products under $10.  Now, as much as I love my higher end lip products- Bite Beauty and Tom Ford, I’m looking at you- there are some pretty amazing ones at a much more affordable cost.  And let’s face it, when you have great products that don’t cost a lot, you can buy multiple colors and save that money for, ahem, other makeup items. Charlotte Tilbury anyone?  🙂

Below are my reviews.

NYX Butter Gloss BLG05 Creme Brulee

NYX Butter Gloss

Described by NYX as “buttery soft and silky smooth, our scrumptious new Butter Lip Gloss tastes as sweet as a sugar cookie—and makes your lips look downright luscious. Swipe it on alone or over your favorite lipstick for creamy sheer to medium coverage that melts onto your lips and is never sticky.”

Pros

Smell nice

Not sticky

Great color selection

Affordable price range

Cons

Not long-lasting (wears off quickly when drinking or eating

Bottom Line: I love these glosses alone or layered underneath lipstick.  The scent isn’t over powering and in my opinion very comparable to some of MAC’s Cremesheen lipglosses at about half the cost.

NYX High Voltage Lipstick HVLS 18 Free Spirit

NYX High Voltage

Described by NYX as amping “up your look with our High Voltage lipstick! Each of the 22 dramatic shades is infused with vibrant color with a super-rich finish!

Pros

Highly pigmented

Affordable cost

Slightly moisturizing

Cons

Can be a bit drying as time goes on

Has a tendency to accentuate fine lines/dry lips

Bottom Line: A great item from NYX if you’re looking for excellent color payoff.  Color begins to fade a bit while eating or drinking but leaves behind a good stain.  Exfoliating lips prior to use is a must though to avoid it clinging to any dry patches.

Milani Color Statement Moisture Matte Innocence

Milani

Described by Milani as “the matte that not only feels great (yes, you read that right – it’s actually comfy) but also lasts for hours and has “a-mazing Instagram selfie” written all over it. Infused with grape seed extract imported from Italy, this smear-proof lip soother delivers mega color that won’t budge, even after a close encounter with a cappuccino cup.”

Pros

Affordable

Feels creamy upon application

Lasts a decent amount of time

Great color selection

Cons

This shade is pretty light so I need multiple layers to get coverage

Accentuates fine lines/dry lips

Bottom Line: This shade looks best when paired with a lipgloss.  It lasts better than most lipsticks through drinking but I wouldn’t classify this is long-lasting.  The texture is very unique and very similar (if not identical) to Maybelline Mattes.  Feels creamy upon application instead  of the usual dry texture most mattes have but not exactly moisturizing.  Exfoliating lips is a must prior to use.

NYX Matte Lipstick MLS 05 Indie Flick

NYX Matte

Described by NYX as “highly pigmented, richly formulated and long-wearing. The formula glides on smoothly and stays put with a non-drying matte finish.”

Pros

Highly pigmented

Excellent staying power

Affordable price

Cons

Drying

Accentuates fine lines, dry lips

Bottom Line: I bought this lipstick after seeing it on Janet from Jan and Jot and I am so glad I did.  Not only is a gorgeous shade-perfect for spring and summer-but it is immensely pigmented and very long lasting. I do find this more on the drying side though, so sometimes I’ll sheer it out with lip balm underneath and make sure to exfoliate lips beforehand.

Rimmel London Kate Moss

Rimmel London

Described by Rimmel as “Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Matte Collection Lipstick gives the gorgeous color richness and comfort of Kate’s lipstick, now in a velvety, matte finish. Ruby powder-enriched formula intensifies the color while keeping a matte finish all day long.”

Pros

Highly pigmented

Very affordable

Leaves behind a stain

Long-lasting

Cons

Feels drying after a while

Settles into fine lines/accentuates dry lips

Prominent scent that lingers

Bottom Line: Another product I bought after I saw it on Chanelle Hayley from Chanelle Hayleyyy . The color is beautiful and sophisticated and I love the staying power.  I do not mind the scent at all, sort of floral mixed with berries, but it is strong and you can definitely smell it while you’re wearing it; it does fade after a while though.

Maybelline Color Sensational Summer Sunset

Maybelline

Described by Maybelline as “crisper color from pure pigments; creamier feel from nourishing honey nectar; lipcolor so rich, so stunning…it’s sensational.”

Pros

Highly pigmented

Long-lasting

Affordable

Extensive shade selection

Cons

Feels a little bit waxy

Not as hydrating as it claims

Can feel a bit drying at times

Clings to dry patches

Bottom Line: I do like these but I will be honest and say I am not fond of the texture.  It feels a bit too waxy to me as opposed to creamy but using a lip balm underneath helps.  Worn alone it has great staying power and there are so many shades to choose from.

Below are the colors swatched and make sure to follow me on Instagram to see more pictures and looks using these colors. 🙂

Simple Makeup Routine!

January 29, 2015

Simple Makeup Products

How are you enjoying this Thursday readers?

I wanted to share a quick post about my simple makeup routine.  As much as I love applying makeup, sometimes I get a bit lazy or don’t have enough time in the morning.  So for those days when I prefer to get a little extra sleep, here’s my fast and simple way to look put-together.

*Note: This doesn’t include my skincare routine which will be in a different post.

Products I Use

Foundation:  One of my favorite foundations is Smashbox Liquid Halo HD Foundation SPF 15.  It feels light, provides full coverage without looking cakey and is a perfect match for my skin.

Concealer: I use Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla to cover up any under-eye discolorations and it provides a little bit of a brightening effect since it’s a light color; it’s also great at concealing redness.  It’s not as hydrating as it claims but that’s nothing an eye cream can’t fix.

Blush:  If you follow my Instagram, you’ll see I purchased the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion and I can’t say enough about it.  It’s a subdued coral color that applies and blends effortlessly, provides a nice glow and looks natural.

Mascara:  I purchased Blinc Mascara awhile ago and I like it to achieve a natural look.  This mascara forms little tubes around lashes that lengthen and unlike other mascaras, I don’t have little black flakes underneath my eye at the end of the day.  One thing this doesn’t do though is provide volume.

Lips: I recently found this lipstick-it was forgotten for a bit in one of my purses-and it’s so natural looking on me.  The best part is how moisturizing the formula is which is nice in this cooler weather.   Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick in Angelic Nude.

Here’s my finished look. 🙂

Sephora Moonshdow Baked Palette Review!

January 20, 2015

Sephora Moon Baked

Hi readers!  Hope you all had a great weekend.  I have a full day at IDI today, taking a class on acids, peels, and exfoliation (super excited!) but I wanted to leave you with a review on the Sephora Moonshadows.  I bought this palette about two months ago and what drew me in initially were the colors and the price, about $12 after a few discounts.

Sephora Moon Baked (inside)Once you open the palette, there’s a mirror on top and 10 gorgeous colors below. All colors have shimmer so if you’re looking for matte colors, this palette might not be for you.   The colors as pictured above from left to right:

Peru: Olive green with gold shimmer

Belize: Red/orange bronze

Barbados: Peach

Seychelles: Peach with a gold undertone

St. Vincent: Frosty white

Grenada: Purple with tiny flecks of silver

Bermuda: Lilac

Fiji: Lilac with a lot of silver strewn in

Martinique: Liquified gold

St. Lucia: Shimmery cream

The majority of the colors are nicely pigmented and blend easily, however, if you want the colors to really pop, using the shadows wet is key.  Below are swatches of all the colors, both wet and dry.

Sephora Moonshadow Baked Palette

Peru, Belize, Barbados, Seychelles, St. Vincent (dry)

Sephora Moonshadow Baked Palette- In the Tropics

Peru, Belize, Barbados, Seychelles, St. Vincent (wet)

Sephora Moonshadow Baked Palette- In the Tropics

Grenada, Bermuda, Fiji, Martinique, St. Lucia (dry)

Sephora Moonshadow Baked Palette- In the Tropics

Grenada, Bermuda, Fiji, Martinique, St. Lucia (wet)

As you can see in some colors, wetting the shadows really brings out the nuances.

Pros

Majority are nicely pigmented

Can be used wet or dry

Blend easily

Can be used to create subtle or dramatic looks

Cons

There’s quite a bit of fallout when you apply the shadow and it also gets all over the palette

No matte colors that can be used as blending/transition shades

A few shades take a few swipes to develop a good color pay off

This palette is Limited Edition

Bottom Line: If you’re looking for pretty, shimmery but not overly glitter eyeshadows, you can’t go wrong with this one.  Although this particular palette was limited edition, Sephora has some other great baked shadow palettes and I hope this gave you some insight into what to expect from these 🙂

Thanks for reading and if you have any questions let me know. 🙂

Tom Ford Lips And Boys Omar Review!

December 29, 2014

Tom Ford Lips and Boys

Hi readers!  I know my posting schedule has been a bit off due to the holidays but should be back to normal starting next week-at least that is the plan. 🙂

Back in November, for Black Friday I went ahead and purchased my very first Tom Ford lipstick.  I’ve read so many great things about them but always winced at the steep $50 price tag.  That is, of course, until Tom Ford decided to release a pretty extensive limited edition collection of lipsticks (50 to be exact) entitled Lips and Boys.  Granted these lippies are smaller than the normal ones (0.07 oz vs 0.10 oz) , but $32 seemed a bit more manageable than $50.

Tom Ford Lipstick

Tom Ford lipsticks come in a dark brown/black (depending on how the light reflects off of it) case accented with gold trim and the signature TF logo etched into them.  The TF logo dissipates after a few swipes though.

Tom Ford Omar

The Lips and Boys collection is grouped into color categories: nudes to browns; silvers to blacks; metallics; light pinks to mauves; pop pinks to roses; fuchsia to magentas; corals to oranges; reds; violets to orchards; and plums.  I settled on the shade (boy?) Omar which pertains to the metallics family as it looked perfect for the holiday season with flecks of gold.

Omar Swatch

The color was a bit hard to capture in pictures but this is pretty close.  To me this shade is kind of copper with red and orange undertones and flecks of gold that give it a metallic finish.  It has a slight vanilla scent, reminiscent of M.A.C. lipsticks.  While the formula is hydrating and applies pretty smoothly, I didn’t find it to be groundbreaking but perhaps it could be because the finish is metallic? Whatever the case, I absolutely love the color!  It stayed on for about 3 hours and didn’t leave a stain behind, only gold shimmer.  Below is a picture of how the color looks applied.

Tom Ford Omar Look

Overall:  I love the color as it’s unique and unlike any color I own.  However, it wasn’t as long lasting as some of the Tom Ford lipsticks are made out to be.  Again, perhaps it might be because the finish is metallic.  I would recommend these as a way to try out the Tom Ford line though at a more wallet friendlier option.

They are available now online and through the following retailers:  Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Saks.

*Note: These are limited edition so don’t wait too long if you want to try them out. 🙂

Have you tried any Tom Ford lipsticks?  What is your opinion on them?

Have a great Monday,

Stephanie

Too Faced/Bite Beauty Review + Swatches!

December 18, 2014

Too Faced Melted Kisses

Left to right: Melted Berry, Melted Peony, Melted Fuchsia and Melted Nude

Happy Thursday everyone!  I hope all is well.  🙂

Awhile back I purchased the Too Faced Melted Kisses lip set.  It included 4 mini versions of Too Faced’s Melted Lipstick and as I had really liked Melted Fuchsia, I thought it was perfect to try out some of their other colors.  Plus, this set has a good array of colors for different looks and with a long-lasting formula, it was too good to pass up.

Too Faced Peony

The Melted Lipsticks come in a squeeze tube with a soft angled tip for easy application.  They are described as “having the shine of a gloss, lasting power of a stain, and pigment-packed color of a liquid lipstick, all in one high-impact formula.”

While these lipsticks have a creamy texture and are pigment-packed, the shine doesn’t last long as it dries to a matte finish.  If you’re not used to the matte finish, it can take you awhile to adjust to this formula.   The color payoff however is amazing!  I found the brighter/darker colors last longer than the neutral ones but they are all great nevertheless.

The shades included are:

Melted Berry– berry red

Melted Peony-dusty rose

Melted Fuchsia– hot pink

Melted Nude– warm peachy nude

Melted Kisses Swatches

Left to right: Melted Berry, Melted Peony, Melted Fuchsia, and Melted Nude

Overall:  If you’re looking for long-lasting lip colors with a great color selection(and cruelty-free), these are worth a look.  Sometimes I use a little bit of lip balm underneath them so the formula doesn’t feel super matte.  Also, make sure your lips aren’t dry or flaky when using these as I saw it clung on and accentuated these aspects.

Bite Beauty Lips

Bite Beauty Mix N’ Mingle Lip Minis: Left to right: Retsina and Musk.

With the holiday season, Bite Beauty has released “a limited-edition lip collection with Crème Lipstick Duos, Matte Crème Lip Crayons, and Lush Fruit lip glosses.” These Mix N’ Mingle Lip Minis can be used as cute stocking stuffers or serve as an introduction to the brand.  As I own a few bright colors from Bite Beauty, I opted for The Luminous Crème Lipstick Duo.

The shades included are:

Retsina– natural pink

Musk–  pink brown.

Restina Musk Swatches

Left to right: Retsina and Musk

As I wore Musk, I realized the color looked familiar and as I glanced at my lipstick collection, I knew why.  Musk is practically a dupe for M.A.C. Viva Glam V!

MAC Bite

I was introduced to Viva Glam V in high school by a makeup artist who did my makeup for my senior portrait and since then, I have repurchased this several times- both the lipstick and the lipgloss.  I love the versatility of this lipstick as you can use it with any look, be it natural or bold and smokey.

MAC Musk Swatches

Left to right: MAC Viva Glam V and Musk

Overall: As much as I love Bite Beauty, I wasn’t super thrilled with this color selection as I already have something similar to it. Retsina and Musk are both beautiful natural colors but for $4 more, you can purchase the full-size Viva Glam V lipstick from M.A.C. Plus, every cent goes to the M.A.C. AIDS fund.

Have you tried any of these colors?  What are your thoughts?

Thanks for reading,

Stephanie

Sephora Favorites Give Me More Lip 2014 Review!

November 6, 2014

SGMML1

Happy Thursday!  I picked up this set a while back and was finally able to complete my review for this kit  just in time for the Sephora VIB event!  This set contains 16 lip colors, one lip liner, and one lip brush for $59.  Aside from the Benefit sample, all products have a great amount of product in them and yet have a nice array of colors ranging from nudes to pinks and berries to reds-suitable for casual everyday looks and glam holiday occasions.  Read below for a breakdown of the kit and my thoughts.

SGMML

Nudes

Neutral Shades

bareMinerals, Too Faced, Laura Mercier, Stila, Make Up For Ever

Make Up For Ever Aqua Waterproof Lip Liner Pencil 3C

This lip liner is a medium neutral beige and although it’s small, you’ll get a decent amount of uses from it because it doesn’t rub off that easily.  Great to be paired underneath with the other nude shades to make the color last longer.  Not sure I would purchase the full size as I find M.A.C. or NYX work just as well on me.

Too Faced La Crème Color Drenched Lip Cream in Naked Dolly

This one wasn’t my favorite.  This color, worn alone, made my lips look too pale-almost corpse like.  It has a creamy consistency and is a bit hydrating but I wasn’t impressed.  I used it with the Make Up For Ever liner underneath and the Laura Mercier lipgloss on top to make it more wearable.

bareMineral Marvelous Moxie in Speak Your Mind

This lipstick is good but not my favorite.  It’s described as a ‘blushing pink’ but can sometimes look pink or pink brown depending on the light-at least that was my experience.  The color payoff is great, and it’s creamy but not hydrating.  I need to put lip balm underneath to give it a more emollient consistency.

Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Blush (rose brown)

A nice, hydrating vanilla scented gloss that works well with a smokey eye or a natural look.  Although I like it, I don’t think I would purchase the full size as there are other lipglosses that do the same for less.

Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in Nude (pink nude)

I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about this one.  It has a sticky feel, which I’m not a huge fan of but I am guessing that’s the reason the gloss stays on longer. If you have dry lips, you should exfoliate and moisturize your lips beforehand because this will cling on to any dry patches.  The color is a pink nude and as the name implies, gives a vinyl like finish.

Nudes

Make Up For Ever, Too Faced, bareMinerals, Laura Mercier, Stila

Pinks

Pink Shades

Too Faced, Benefit, Bite Beauty, Tarte

Bite Beauty Luminous Crème Lipstick in Palomino (magenta)

Absolutely love Bite Beauty products and this one doesn’t disappoint.  This magenta hued lipstick is richly pigmented, has a creamy formula that applies smoothly and is infused with antioxidant resveratrol.  The color will eventually wear off after a few hours especially after drinking or eating but it lasted a good 5 hours.

Benefit  Cosmetics  Hydrating Lip Balm in Posie

Another product that sadly didn’t work for me.  This lip balm boasts hyaluronic acid as an ingredient, and while I am a huge fan of hyaluronic acid for its hydrating nature, for some odd reason, this dried my lips out terribly.  The color is too sheer and there wasn’t much product to begin with in this sample.  I prefer Benefit’s Cheeck and Lip Tint in Posie as the color (poppy pink) is more intensified and lasts longer.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wearing Lipstick in Melted Fuchsia

The first time I tried the melted lipsticks, I wasn’t a huge fan because I found the formula to be too matte for my taste.  With this kit though I decided to give it a second chance and I am really glad I did.  The color is amazing and it lasts!  On me, it still has a matte finish but it wasn’t uncomfortably dry-you just need to get used to the formula.  These are cruelty free and I would definitely try out more colors from this line.

Tarte LipSurgence Power Pigment in Flush

I’m not sure how this lip tint is different from the Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tints-they seem the same to be with the exception of the design.  It comes in a retractable chubby pencil like form, has the signature peppermint scent, has good color payoff and the color can be worn sheer or intensified.  The website describes it as a sheer berry color, but it looked more pink on me.

pinks

Bite, Benefit, Too Faced, Tarte

Berries

Berry Shades

Fresh, Buxom, Tarte, OCC

Buxom Mini Full Bodied Lipstick in Menace

Finally a lip set that doesn’t include a Buxom lipgloss.  No offense to those who love it but I can’t stand the smell!  Okay, rant over.  Seriously, I am so happy that the set included this lipstick because I probably wouldn’t have ever considered looking at these.  It’s a beautiful  rich wine color that applies smooth-and is great for fall- but it’s not super moisturizing so applying a bit of lip balm underneath helps.  I would definitely purchase this.

Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment in Berry

A lip balm with a sheer berry tint that has an added SPF 15 added as a bonus-lips need SPF too!  I do love these lip balms as they hydrate fairly well but they are on the pricey side making them a splurge.  Aside from the price, one thing I dislike about these are that they melt easy in the heat.

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Moody

One of my favorite shades from Tarte’s LipSurgence collection as it’s a plum color that can be sheer or intensified .  It’s easy to apply, comes in a retractable pencil like form, smells like peppermint and has a lip balm texture.  It’s not as hydrating as I would like and isn’t a true stain but it does last.

Obsessive Compulsive Color  Lip Tar Matte in Black Dahlia (blackest blackened red)

I’ve always seen these but kind of just glossed over them.  I’m glad that this set included included a tube so that I could give these a try.  First of all, they included a lip brush with this set so don’t toss it out-you’ll definitely need it.  The formula is a bit thin but not runny so having using the brush will yield a more precise and even application.  The color is immensely pigmented-a deep burgundy red wine color- that will last a long time.  It fades slightly throughout the day but you’ll still be left with a very nice tint.  Bonus: these are 100% vegan and cruelty free.

Berry

Buxom, Fresh, Tarte, OCC

Reds

Red Shades

Kat Von D, Sephora, Laura Mercier, Hourglass

Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion in Red Essence

This lip color applies like a gloss but dries to a stain.  You can apply several layers to intensify the color and the drying time is fast with ample time to apply another coat before it completely dries.  This is a dark red lip stain that does stay on but somehow, it lasted longer on my arm when I swatched it than it did on my lips.  I even used it oil to try and rub it off my arm but I can still see some color on my arm.  So weird.  Despite this, though I do like it and for the price, you can stock up on a couple of shades.  I own this shade in Tangerine Ink and I love it.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw

I love the color on this as it’s a vibrant, pretty red. However, that’s the only thing I like about this lipgloss.  I really wanted to like this lip stain and I gave it a few tries but it just didn’t work for me-it smeared all over the place.

Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Red Amour

Described as a classic neutral red, this is such a pretty color with a subtle sheen that wears much nicer than the Kat Von D one.  It glides smoothly on the lips and leaves behind a nice stain after it has faded.  This color would work extremely well for a classic red lip, cat eye look.

Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon  (classic true red)

Highly pigmented color that applies like a gloss but dries to a matte finish.  I love the color but the texture is very weird.  On me, it felt a bit dry and sticky as the same time  and will slowly fade after about 4 hours.  The other nice thing about this is that it gave my lips a more poutier look so that’s always nice. I’ll use it until I finish it but probably won’t purchase on its own because of the texture.  We’ll see.

Reds

Sephora, Kat Von D, Laura Mercier, Hourglass

I hope you guys found this helpful!  It really is a great kit and if you’re a Sephora VIB or Rouge member, you get 20% off your purchases.

Tell me, have you tried this kit or any of the products here? Which ones do you like or dislike?

My Summer Essential Product List!

May 13, 2014

With summer around the corner, I decided to write a post and share a few of my favorite must haves for summer.

PCA

PCA Skin Representative/Dermstore $40

PCA Skin Weightless Protection Broad Spectrum SPF 45

Love this sunscreen!  True to its name, it has weightless, non-greasy formulation that has caffeine and silybin added as antioxidants.  It does not make me breakout and wears well under makeup.

too faced

Sephora, $30

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

This is a matte bronzer, (no shimmer or shine) which I find perfect  for summer since my skin tends to be more on the oily side.  Sometimes I use it to contour my cheekbones and sometimes I use it as I would a blush to get a hint if color.  For some weird reason, the smell reminds me of those chocolate scratch and sniff stickers you would get in elementary school.

Stila Eye

Sephora, $20

Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner

This eyeliner will last all day without smearing.  I have worn this without an eye primer and it didn’t budge.  The tip allows for both a thin, precise line or a thick bolder one.  Apply once and forget about it the rest of the day.

stila-convertible-colour

Sephora, $25

Stila Convertible Color

I received a deluxe sample of  this 2-in-1 product that is both a lipstick and a blush.  It is creamy without feeling heavy, sheer with buildable color, and you can toss it in your purse and take it on the go.  The color I got was Peony, a brownish rose that looks pretty and natural.

ysl

Sephora, $35

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Coutre Vernis A Levris Glossy Stain

These lip stains are on the pricey side, but in my opinion well worth it. Unlike other stains I have tried, these don’t feel drying, there is a great color selection and are nicely pigmented- one swipe and you’re good to go. The long-lasting staying power ensures you don’t have to reapply frequently and you don’t have to worry about it leaving a mark on your drinkware.

NYX

Drugstores, $5

NYX Cosmetics Butter Gloss

These come in a variety of shades (neutral to bright) and the price tag allows for multiple purchases.  The consistency is a bit sticky ( not as moisturizing as I would have hoped) but they do last a good 2-3 hours on the lips and the color payoff is excellent.  I really like Cherry Cheese Cake as it is a wearable summer orange color.

Gio Sugar Scrub

Giovanni Cosmetics/Individual Representative, $14

Giovanni Hot Chocolate Sugar Scrub

When I’m not making my own body scrubs, I like to use this one. The yummy chocolate scent makes for a sweet body treat that is not abrasive but still effective in smoothing away rough skin, especially on elbows, knees and feet.

Milani

Drugstores, $5-$10

Milani Total Lash Cover Mascara with 3 Zone Brush

This mascara is one of the few mascaras out there that doesn’t irritate by eyes.  Other mascaras leave a burning sensation on my eyes towards the end of  the day, but not this one.  I also love the brush as I can use the tip to coat harder to reach lashes such as the inner corners and bottom ones.

I always love trying other products, so please share your favorites!

Should You CC?

April 3, 2014

CC Cream 2

Me wearing Bobbi Brown’s CC Cream SPF 35

After an unfavorable experience with Dr. Jart’s Water Fuse Smart Gel BB, I decided to forgo BB creams and dive in to CC creams.  The appeal of a CC (Color Correcting) cream is that it can address issues like redness, dullness, uneven skin tone, age spots and sallowness while providing SPF coverage and a light feel on the skin.  It’s normally aimed at those who have minor skin issues but they can have buildable coverage.

The CC cream I have been testing out for the last couple of weeks is Bobbi Brown’s CC Cream SPF 35 in Warm Nude-geared towards light to medium skin tones-and I love it! Below, the breakdown of my review.

Pros

Feels light on the skin

Excellent in concealing redness

Provides good moisture to my combination skin without feeling oily

Broad Spectrum SPF 35

Cons

Limited Color Selection

Takes a little bit longer to blend than I would normally like

Buildable coverage for those who have minor skin imperfections but not as much as a foundation can provide

Price: $44 1.35 FL OZ

Overall: While in my opinion CC creams don’t replace your skincare routine, they are a great everyday option if you have minor skin imperfections and want light-weight coverage; over time you may see a slight improvement in your skin.  Also, although the inclusion of SPF is a plus and great for when you are in a hurry, I still wear my normal SPF underneath to make sure I apply the recommended amount- 1 teaspoon.

CC Cream

What’s your preferred medium: tinted moisturizers, BB Creams, CC Creams, foundation or powders?
